First legal export of cannabis material from Jamaica to another Caricom country

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent And the Grenadines, September 21, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The Pure Jamaican Group of Companies (Pure Jamaican) is proud to announce the donation of 10,000 award-winning premium feminized cannabis seeds to CARICOM member state Saint Vincent and the. to announce Grenadines (SVG). The philanthropic donation is in response to the damage caused by the La Soufrière eruption that devastated the germ plasm of licensed traditional growers in SVG, which were in close proximity to the volcano.

Jerrol Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of SVG’s MCA, commented, “The Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA) of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines gratefully accepts these feminized high-performance seeds on behalf of the Traditional Cultivators of SVG. Many of the varieties and landraces that existed in SVG were destroyed by the La Soufrière eruption. One of these land races came from Jamaica. This donation not only helps to rehabilitate the livelihoods and production capacities of these farmers, but also improves the quality of the seeds as planting material especially for tropical environments. The seeds were produced through an R&D initiative led by Pure Jamaicans Gi Life Farm and Master Grower Ed Rosenthal, Benjamin Lind the Humboldt Seed Company and Dr. Machel Emanuel, Principal Investigator of the Life Science Cannabis Research Group on University of the West Indies. The donation was made to MCA by Mr. Robert Wright, Director of Pure Jamaican and Chairman of the Gi Life Foundation.
