BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – For the fourth time, Heady Vermont is holding its annual Veteran’s Day cannabis giveaway.
From 3 p.m. on Sunday, service staff can drop by to test a variety of cannabis products.
Heady Vermont’s Monica Donovan says she read research that claimed cannabis could help relieve PTSD symptoms and heal physical and mental trauma. However, the VA website states, “Research to date does not support cannabis as an effective PTSD treatment, and some studies suggest that cannabis can be harmful, especially when used for long periods of time.”
Donovan says about a dozen veterans attend the event each year and say cannabis has been beneficial for them.
“There is limited research into the effectiveness of cannabis in PTSD, but the research conducted shows that it could have potential benefits in helping some of the psychological trauma associated with ending the war,” Donovan said. “A lot more research needs to be done in this area. Hopefully, when the federal regulations are raised a little, we can investigate them more on the matter. “
The competition is expected to end at 6 p.m.
